Although the Lake Team specializes in Lake Burton, Lake Rabun, and Seed Lake properties, we also represent some of the finest off-lake properties in Rabun County. 216 Outback Lane is such a property.
What struck me immediately before arriving at Westwind Farm was the fantastic drive to the property. First of all, the Bettys Creek valley is one of the most pristine areas off NE Georgia. Driving up Bettys Creek Road immediately calms the nerves and brings on a sense of relaxation. Leaving the main road and crossing the namesake creek you see mountains surrounding you covered in large trees and native plants. Entering the property and passing the stone columns adorned with aged metal eagle sculptures lets you know you have arrived.
Cresting the hill you see the grand home perfectly perched on the top of a knoll. Manicured grounds set the scene for what is to come inside the lodge-like home. The owners contracted for the home to be built in 1999 and completion was in 2000. The foyer inside the front door opens to the grand living room with soaring vaulted ceilings an floor to ceiling stone fireplace. Looking left you can see the well-equipped kitchen with a large island and abundant cabinets and pantries. The granite countertops and pressed tin ceiling all add to the enjoyment of preparing meals in this open space. The dining room, living area, and kitchen are all open to each other inviting gatherings of family and friends. The home has been the scene of several 4th of July celebrations where up to 70 of the owners closest friends and family have found the perfect place to gather. Upstairs are 2 guest bedroom with ensuite baths and the tall vaulted ceilings continue. On the main level, the master suite has an office nook surround by windows letting in natural light and the beauty of the surrounding mountains. The terrace level features a large den, another bedroom suite, a half bath, and an additional unfinished bedroom with bathroom.
Mountain living is not complete without outdoor living areas and the beauty of mountain land. The large rear porch could tell stories of a family gathered enjoying every conceivable type of weather from a foot of snow to rumbling thunderstorms to a warm summer afternoon. From the porch, you not only notice the deep grass-covered pasture rolling down the hill but looking up is a big view of Picken’s Nose, a landmark mountain bordering Georgia and North Carolina. A tour of the 37+ acres was impressive as the owners had a pond constructed whic is fed by a year-round creek with crystal clear mountain spring water. Paths and trails carry you throughout the property that has a border with US Forestry land. Tucked in the trees is a large workshop that was home to vintage cars, motorcycles, colorful jukeboxes, and antique music machines collected by the owners.
After a complete tour of the property, one appreciates that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. With exceptional quality and spacious home, pristine land with all of the best the mountains have to offer, it is evident this estate is outstanding and crafted to create warm and inviting living experience. It is now ready for new and unforgettable memories.
