This home was designed and built in 1990-1991 by the current owners. It has been their full-time home since then. The fee simple lot, bought in 1973, comprises 2 acres with 250+ feet of shoreline, a two-story, two slip boathouse, and a stone patio with a built-in gas grill on one side and a free-standing stone fireplace on the other. A lakeside wharf connects the boathouse to the patio and gives access to the entire lake frontage. The water in front of the boathouse is quite deep – and remains deep even during significant fluctuations in the lake level.

The 4,900 SF house is not a typical “lake house”. The owners designed it to be a gathering place for their large blended family (7 children, 16 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren) and also to reflect their love of antiques, fine art, oriental rugs, old stained glass, leaded and beveled glass doors and windows, and their love of fine wines. The design and execution succeeded admirably on all scores. It has drawn the family together from California, Michigan, Washington, New York, and points in between. The owners have tastefully integrated their collection of antique architectural elements into their design. Almost every room in the house has a view of the lake. 

The house’s three levels provide 5 bedrooms (one of which is currently used as the husband’s office) and 5 full bathrooms plus a powder room. There are 4 fireplaces plus the one on the stone patio. Additionally, a large room on the top floor is now used as the wife’s office but could be reconfigured to be anything from a workshop to a “dorm” room.

The other side of the master bedroom opens onto a screened-in porch that overlooks the lake. 

At the other end of the top floor hall is a bedroom (now used as an office) with attached full bath, and door into the large bonus room now used as the wife’s office. 

The bottom floor comprises two bedrooms, each with a full bath, and a central rec/TV lounge with another wood-burning fireplace, and a queen-size sleeper sofa. This central room opens onto a large screened porch overlooking the lake, which provides space for ping pong table and numerous sleeping bags. 

The central area also opens onto the hall that leads to the owner’s near-favorite room: a 1,000+ bottle capacity wine cellar/tasting room with its independent temperature control. 

A side hill elevator with upper landing off the kitchen makes it practical to enjoy meals on the lakeside patio. 

Finally, the house has a deep well that provides pure freshwater that is the envy of Atlanta friends and Washington kids, and a whole house (38KV) generator with an automatic transfer switch that provides immediate emergency power when commercial power fails.
